Westford

We Are
Vermont.

Westford Vermont is a town located in Chittenden County, northeast of Burlington, on VT Route 128.

The Browns River Bridge is one of the few remaining covered bridges in Vermont. The covered bridge was used until 1965 when a steel and concrete bridge was built along side it. By l975, the bridge had been greatly neglected and required major repair work. By 1987, the bridge was once again in need of major restoration. The Westford Historical Society contracted with Milton Graton to do the restoration work, and in October the bridge was moved to the Town Garage for repairs. After years of applying for grants and holding fund-raisers, federal grant money finally became available in 1991 (Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act of 1991 "ISTEA"). The grant was written and received in 1995, and permits were obtained to begin repairing the bridge.

A noted resident of Westford includes Steven T. Byington, intellectual, translator, and American individualist anarchist.
