Rutland Town

We Are
Vermont.

Rutland is a town in Rutland County, of the Rutland-Killington region. Rutland completely surrounds the city of Rutland, which is incorporated separately from the town of Rutland.

Originally granted in 1761 by Benning Wentworth, the town was named after John Manners, 3rd Duke of Rutland. It was one of the most successful of the New Hampshire Grants because of the excellent farmland and gentle topography.

Route 7 & Route 4 intersect in Rutland and are a major connection to destinations throughout the Northeast. The Rutland Southern Vermont Regional Airport is the largest airport in central Vermont, and the Amtrak station in Rutland provides access to the route known as the Ethan Allen Express, which runs daily between New York City and Rutland, Vermont, by way of Albany.
