Pittsfield is a town in Rutland County, of the Rutland-Killington region and is site of the annual Pittsfield Snowshoe Race. The only real village the town ever had is Pittsfield, located on Vermont Route 100 on the extreme eastern side.

The town was named after Pittsfield, Massachusetts, which itself had been named in honor of William Pitt, a British Whig statesman who led Britain during the French and Indian War.

Pittfield was one of thirteen Vermont towns isolated by flooding caused by Tropical Storm Irene in 2011.

A notable person from the area was Charles Herbert Joyce, a congressman.
