Hancock

We Are
Vermont.

Hancock is a town in Addison County, of the Middlebury-Vergennes region and is home to the Middlebury College Snow Bowl and contains Middlebury Gap, a mountain pass in the Green Mountains.

Founded in July 1781, the town was named for John Hancock, the Revolutionary Boston patriot whose large embellished signature is the most recognized on the Declaration of Independence.

Hancock was one of thirteen Vermont towns isolated by flooding caused by Hurricane Irene in 2011.

A notable person from the area was Jeremiah Ingalls, one of the first American composers.
