Grand Isle Vermont is located in Grand Isle County, in the Islands & Farms region of Vermont. The town shares an island on Lake Champlain with the town of South Hero, and Gordon's Landing is located on the western shore for the year-round ferry to Plattsburgh, New York. Grand Isle is 30 minutes from Burlington, and a day-trip from Montreal, Canada.

Grand Isle is home of the Ed Weed Fish Culture Station. Established in 1991, it is the newest and largest of five fish culture stations owned and operated by the Vermont Fish & Wildlife Department (VFWD). Vermont's oldest standing home and the oldest log cabin in New England, known as the Hyde Log Cabin, as well as the historic one-room "Block Schoolhouse," can also be found in Grand Isle, Vermont.

According to the Department of Forests, Parks, and Recreation, the Grand Isle State Park is the most-visited campground in the state park system and is Vermont's second-largest state campground with 117 tent/trailer sites, 37 lean-to sites, and 4 cabin sites.
