"Most of northern Vermont is past peak with little color to display, though there may be pockets of color here and there. The higher elevations of central Vermont have some trees hanging on to their foliage, contrasting with the dark green evergreens and the soft gray hillsides where the leaves have fallen. The most foliage color right now is going to be found in the rolling hills of the Champlain Valley, including the Lake Champlain Islands and the Burlington area, and in the valleys of southern Vermont. Keep checking back here as we continue to gather information from our "Leaf Squad" to report foliage conditions throughout the state!

Foliage color generally starts to change in the higher, cooler areas, spreading down into the valleys, and moving from north to south across the state.

'Peak' colors can be found at many different times & places as the season progresses, and the timing varies from year to year, based on the weather.

"While by many people’s definition, we have now passed 'peak,' the colors are still bright at Smugglers’ Notch! High alpine birches have lost their leaves, with the green spruces and firs remaining, but in the lower elevations, many of those birches, poplars, and maples still hold on to their colorful coats of foliage.

This is the last weekend to enjoy the Fox Run Meadows disc golf course, but the Brewster Ridge disc golf course (ranked 8th best in the world) remains open for another week. Fire up those hashtags and catch the remaining color soon! Rumor has it, there’s snow in the forecast for the mountaintops for this weekend, making the perfect backdrop for snowliage photos. "This picture was taken on the way to Rutland from Londonderry, along Route 155 & Route 103. I think it's the perfect picture to show that there are some parts of the state with bare trees, and some parts with beautiful color remaining. We may be past the peak of the 2020 Foliage Season, but if you take a walk in the woods, you're guaranteed to see at least some beautiful fall colors remaining. Don't forget to look DOWN as well as up!"

"Our property is looking very fall festive! A successful Columbus Day weekend is now behind us and we are excited for the remaining couple of weeks of foliage reservations. The trees on our property are now beginning to look rich in color. The pumpkins, corn stalks and straw bales with mums in full bloom make it all like a fictional story. We had an engagement on the property this week! Love is in the crisp fall air around here. Come spend it with us, where you come as 'strangers' and leave as friends!"

"With Harvest Fest officially behind us, the leaves have followed suit. Dark shades of red and orange still linger, but bare branches and trunks are beginning to take over the mountainside. Still beautiful enough for photos during a scenic hike, the time for [leaf] peeping is nearing a close. We now begin a quiet period of preparation. With each day that passes, opening day draws near. Village shops will still be open on the weekend and leisure hiking is a surefire way to get ready for the winter season.
