"Mid-stage to late season color can be found throughout the state, with the valleys and lower elevations generally displaying shades of red, orange and yellow. We expect to see more fall foliage unfold near Lake Champlain and the Connecticut River over the next several days.
Heavy rains last week did cause the leaves to come down in some areas, but colorful foliage can still be found in many sections of the state. Keep checking back here as we continue to gather information from our "Leaf Squad" to report foliage conditions throughout the state!
Reports are typically updated weekly, on THURSDAYS.
Between reports, you can find some gorgeous Vermont Fall scenery in our Autumn Photo Gallery, thanks to local photographers and visitors to Vermont. But truly, you've got to be here to fully enjoy the leaves. And remember, it's never too late to plan a fall vacation in Vermont!

Foliage color generally starts to change in the higher, cooler areas, spreading down into the valleys, and moving from north to south across the state.
'Peak' colors can be found at many different times & places as the season progresses, and the timing varies from year to year, based on the weather.
Beyond leaf peeping, there are plenty of ways to enjoy Vermont’s mountains, meadows and villages during the fall. Cooler temps are in the forecast, with the possibility for a few mountaintop snowflakes to provide a little bit of 'snowliage,' which is a welcome treat for photographers. We’ve been seeing lots of family portraits and roadside photography lately. It’s truly a beautiful time at Smuggs!"

"We'd say we're past peak foliage at this point. Many trees are bare due to some recent rain and wind, though there are a few holdouts that haven't completely changed yet. Nevertheless, with moderate temperatures and a layer of color on the grounds, these early October days are still enjoyable!"

Such vibrant colors couldn't have come at a better time as we gear up for Harvest Fest. Spend the long weekend strolling through the village checking out the Courtyard Sale. Or perhaps get those last laps in during the final weekend of operations for the Mountain Bike Park. As always, scenic gondola rides and hikes to the Fire Tower provide ample leaf peeping.
Be sure to visit our website for information about travel and lodging."
